THE SANTA FE COLLEGE TEACHING ZOO IS THE SPOT FOR ANIMAL LOVERS

When visiting animals, it is always an adventure. The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo is the perfect place to go to if you are an animal lover like myself. The zoo wasn’t too big, but it was the perfect size to spend an afternoon walking around. I was able to see everything in one day.

There were many employees walking around to answer any questions I had. They were very knowledgeable and helpful about any questions I had about the animals. This was a great spent afternoon.

The Santa Fe zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is open seven days a week and there are no appointments necessary. The address of the zoo is 3000 NW 83rd St. Gainesville, FL 32606.

Parking for the zoo was free and easy. The zoo shares the parking lot with the Santa Fe school that guests are able to park in. The admission fee for the park for adults is $6, for children, seniors and UF students $5 and free for children three or under.

After you pay and get your tickets to enter, there is a lady that will take them and give you a coin to put in the quarters for conservation box. You get to pick if you would like to donate your money from your ticket to three different projects: North Florida Wetlands Conservation Project, the Crocodile Specialist Groups and the Earthwatch’s Trinidad Ocelot Project.

The zoo is located on a 10-acre wooded forest with nature trails. The zoo has rare and endangered species of mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and invertebrates. There is a playground in the middle of the zoo as well.

When I first entered the zoo there was a peacock walking around with us, which I thought was funny, but all the other animals were in habitats. My personal favorite animal at this zoo were the apes. They were White-Handed Gibbons. They were so active and playing with each other. The zoo had information about each habitat and the animals in it located near the animals.

The animals other than the apes, that I enjoyed the most include the Guanaco, Emu, Tree Kangaroo and a Bald Eagle.

I learned a lot from the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo and had a great time. I loved watching the animals. It was a great time and I would recommend any animal lover in the area to take a trip there. You won’t be disappointed!
